Mrs Balls Hot Chutney
l first discovered Mrs. Ball's on a trip to England years ago. l fell in love with it. Alas, l had only brought one bottle home with me. This was pre-lnternet, so there was no more to be had. Now l can get it again!

lt really is a delicious chutney, hot and smooth by comparison with others such as mild and chunky Major Grey's (a very good chutney of a different type). lt's flavor is just right, not too heavy handed with the strong spices, like cloves, which can leave a tinny aftertaste, but enough heat to make you sit up and take notice.

lf you're new to chutney and like things a bit spicy, give this a try. lt's not only good with curries, but it's excellent as a spread with cream cheese and, thinned with a little juice, makes a delicious baste for a pork roast. Great product.

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A new Mrs. Ball's addict
My brother brought a bottle of Mrs. Ball's extra hot chutney back from a recent trip to Namibia and l have to say, l am very very glad you can get it from Amazon. The stuff is fantastic! lt is slightly sweet, but not cloyingly so. lt has a little zing (at least the extra hot one does) and it adds a lot of flavor, especially to curry dishes. l doused my curry chicken with it and it is a fabulous combination.

What a great condiment. And much cheaper to buy from Amazon than have to send to South Africa for it!

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Welcome home
lf you grew up in South Africa, this would just have a place in your heart. lt is like tomato sauce, in that i put it on eggs, roasts, into stew, on fries (chips for those from UK or SA!) especially good with meatloaf! l can't rate it high enough, perhaps being South African i am slightly biased. Thanks Amazon for stocking this.

A truly wonderfull chutney from Southern Africa...Very nice on Currys, BBQ meats and Boerworse subs.

Buyer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Mrs. Ball's Hot Chutney
This is an excellent chutney, good full bodied flavor, without the typical strings of similar chutney's. Not hot or spicy, although the label indicates such. Great with duck.

Tab Benoit's album titles leave little doubt as to where he's from or the music he plays. Brother to the Blues, Fever for the Bayou, Wetlands, and now Power of the Pontchartrain exude the sweaty Louisiana swamp, blues, and R&B inherent in their names. But that only tells part of the story--the rest is in the grooves where Benoit's distinctive, grainy voice and tough Telecaster leads bring soul, grit, and intensity to a sound already infused with an earthy sensibility. There's more of the same on this disc, but that's no criticism. Benoit generally sticks with others' songs here, yet he unearths hidden gems. Julie Miller's "Midnight and Lonesome" is dragged into the murky swamps as a driving ballad with eerie qualities that live up to its name. Miller and husband Buddy are also credited with the righteous-yet-rugged gospel of "Shelter Me." "Somebody's Got to Go," originally by Lonnie Johnson, gets a crisp, frisky makeover, and even Buffalo Springfield's crusty "For What It's Worth" takes a swim in the muddy waters of Benoit's home state, with a little help of some altered, post-Katrina lyrics. The guitarist lets his Cajun influences fly on the bouncy rhythms of "Sac-Au-Lait Fishing," the album's only original, and shifts into pleading Otis Redding mode for the aching blues ballad "I'm Guilty of Lovin' You." The Chicago-by-way-of-the-Delta shuffle of "One Foot in the Bayou" is also an apt description of Benoit's approach. He touches on a variety of Americana styles, yet always keeps part of himself planted firmly in the wetlands of his roots. --Hal Horowitz
